Stop At The Giant Woodpecker...

...You've Arrived!

Whether you are driving West on the number 32 or in the South - North - South direction on the number 321, you must continue on to the town of LEADER, in the province of SASKATCHEWAN where they have a rather whimsical assortment of enormous wildlife sculptures. You will know you have arrived when you come to the junction with a Giant Woodpecker, clutching on a tree stump.
This particular sculpture is of interest because it brings you adjacent, right across the street to the restaurant named RATTLERS.
By memory I can't actually say that I ever remember seeing the name RATTLERS posted outside or on the building and I was there less than two months ago. It must be there somewhere, or maybe the sign has been faded by the blowing prairie winds and glowing country sun.
You will know you are there because the parking lot is continually packed full and sometimes double parked. So don't be afraid to hedge someone in, this is a small town with a population of around 1,000. I have been in RATTLERS many busy times over the years and no one has ever had a problem with parking.
When you walk in it seems like an old fashioned diner with a narrow entrance, working telephone on the wall, penny candy and toy machines for the kiddies and you are almost often than not going to rub shoulders with someone on their way out, so tuck in and say hello!
Once you are inside it's dimly lit, open concept like a cafeteria style restaurant. Nothing is fancy but it is clean and you may seat yourself. You are promptly greeted with a coffee pot and menu's and if coffee's not what you want to drink, then you will have your beverage within a minute. RATTLERS has a Lounge-style bar attached and is a fully liquor licensed establishment. So drink up!
RATTLERS has a new menu and I find it way to hard to decide what I want only because everything is so good. They make fantastic pizzas. You pay a little more for quality, but it shows. The food is fresh and always full of flavour. Often if you order an entree and decide to go with french fries as your side, they WILL fall off your plate when it arrives at your table. It's not because of misplacement, it's only because portions are generous. There are many choices and lots of variety from breaky foods to pub fare and Italian pasta and pizza. Don't be shy about taking time to order. NOTHING here is soggy, wilted, discoloured, rancid or greasy like some other dives you may come across while travelling by car like I do.
Like I always say about a good restaurant or eatery, this place is TOP NOTCH!
If you can't decide on a menu item, have whatever the special of the day is. RATTLERS always makes a captivating combination for your senses!
I recommend:
1.Sharing a pizza.
2.Munching on onion rings.
3.Chicken fingers for the kiddies ( you will have to take a doggie bag)
4.Chef's Salad or Thai Chicken Salad. (See #5)
5.For you stinky cheese lovers like me, RATTLERS has Bleu Cheese Dressing! Amen to that!
6.Soup Soup Soup. For goodness sakes, start with the soup!
I believe that even if you aren't hungry and just passing through, that you should at least stop and have a cup of coffee. You might be tempted into something for the road, and their smiles are always 100% FREE.
Enjoy!
