Some Like It Hot

In the 1959 film, "Some Like It Hot", Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon were on the approach to a Florida beach. Donned with bathing caps and a huge beach ball in hand, the trio joined a chorus of girls wading in the water singing a Harry Carroll song - "By the sea, by the sea! By the beautiful sea! You and me, you and me. Oh how happy we'll be!"

Two weeks ago after I rolled into Westbank on a frigid and blustery winter morning, my aunt was insistent on trudging through the snow and ice to take me and my future sister-in-law to a new fish & chip place.  Mmm. Hot fish & chips are a welcoming comfort food on such days as these.

Waves - The Undercurrent is Coming For You!

For those of you who do not know how to swim or are busy treading water at Starbucks, WAVES COFFEE HOUSE(s) are friendly waters that must be explored.
Today was my first WAVES experience at the 17th Ave, Calgary locale and I must say that I have never been in a more appealing, relaxed and trendy environment. This was THE perfect place to conduct business and still remain casual in an atmosphere that is suited to everyone.
The first thing I noticed upon approach was

Jack It Up??

Yes please!
Frozen yummy in a glass.
Shredded cheddar bigger than fries.
Appies tickle my buddies.
Stomach bigger than eyes.
Tabasco on every table.
Entrees look so appealing.
Tv's over every shoulder.
Tabasco hanging from ceiling!

Like Candy For Breakfast

My new favourite place for beverages.
This week was full of firsts, including my first bubble tea.
I always thought that bubble tea would be a foamy, tea-style drink, you know? Bubbly. It's not. Rather, the owners/operators describe bubble tea as a fruit slushy.
I describe it as Heaven In My Mouth!
Just pick a fruit, any fruit

Could Not Even Take A Photo...

...because everything was drowning in some type of sauce.
The Kim Chi was buried in it. My glazed potatoes were swimming. My bbq'd meat couldn't come up for air and my rice was drenched.
Even my friend was given a

I Only Come Here To Drink...

...and watch the people go by.

There is no restaurant more perfectly suited for this purpose, than MILESTONES at Victoria's Inner Harbour.

The bar service is phenomenal, as well as patio and table service. But then again,

Order take Out

The best is when you have it delivered to the beach or when you are among friends and trying new things.
Always try something new and different that you have never had before. It won't taste bad, but it will taste different than your USUAL.

Stop At The Giant Woodpecker...

...You've Arrived!

Whether you are driving West on the number 32 or in the South - North - South direction on the number 321, you must continue on to the town of LEADER, in the province of SASKATCHEWAN where they have a rather whimsical assortment of enormous wildlife sculptures. You will know you have arrived when you come to the junction with a Giant Woodpecker, clutching on a tree stump.
This particular sculpture is of interest because it brings you adjacent, right across the street to the restaurant named RATTLERS.

Starbucks Now Officially An Inglewoodian

I didn't realise until today that this Starbucks location was not on the Urban Spoon Map. So I suggested it.
It just so happened that I was in the very place at the time I sent in the information that U.S. needed and now Inglewood's Starbucks is finally here.
Even though some may think this Starbucks is lacking when it comes to a drive thru, those who do not live in Inglewood may not be aware that walking in and waiting to order your special brew is part of the experience that awaits you.

It's a Truck Stop & Food Go!

Just go in, find a seat and order a dagon burger!
Make sure you have a toonie for the jukebox, there's one at every table. You will get three plays for one dollar and seven songs for two dollars.
I NEVER, EVER leave without hearing "I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO" by Tony Bennett and "HE STOPPED LOVING HER TODAY" by George Jones. The third song is always a random one depending on my mood. I sing along out loud and once even had an older couple get up and dance in the isle to the old George Jones tune. It actually brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.

Wherefore Art Thou Romeo?

Wherefore Art Thou Romeo?
Deny thy palate and refuse thy calories?
If thou wilt not, be but sworn by formaggio,
Then you'll no longer be a friend to Italy.
If you feel like you do not want to pay for pasta when you go out for supper, ROMEO'S will change your mind and make you a believer!
It was late one night, only but a day or two after I had moved into my apartment on the corner of Cedar Hill and Hillside when I was still too tired to unpack more pots and dishes,

The Police In This Hood Don't Do Donuts!

When I lived in the South East neighbourhood of Midnapore, going to Starbucks was a staple in my diet. I think out of the one hundred or more times that I was there, only twice did I go inside.
I LIVED IN THAT NICE, LONG, COMFORTABLY SMOOTH DRIVE THRU with a CLEAR SPEAKER BOX and FRIENDLY PEOPLE ATTACHED TO THE VOICES INSIDE.

A Welcome Addiction

You just cannot have an afternoon in Victoria without your Honey Bun!
For many years I travelled to Victoria and experienced it's unique wonders saying, "I will move here one day" and that day eventually came. In 1995, I commuted to work from Sidney to Victoria by transit and stopped every day by the Honeybun Cafe that was on the west side of Douglas Street at the corner of Fisgard Street. I patronized the cafe for an occasional coffee but never left without a golden glazed, creamy coconut delight that was the Honey Bun!
The HONEY BUNS were so delicious that

It's Pag's To The Locals

Standing in line is not something uncommon for good food or drinks on a night in Victoria. So if someone suggests, hey let's go to Pag's, there is usually no hesitation. It is worth the wait.
When you go, expect to hear bustling people, jazzy music and clinking dishes. Order anything from the menu that suits your restaurant palate as long as you save room for dessert.
I recommend

3 People Like it ??? (so far to date)

I'm #3
There are line-ups at this little food kiosk from the second it opens.
Either SaskTel employees eat three lunches, or they employ a tonne of people because Umi Sushi is so very popular!
And I love it!
